Independent Travel & Guided Tours

If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home.  – James Michener

Whether you are traveling solo, with your partner, as part of a group, or with your family, there are two ways to do it, Independent Travel where you go-it-alone, or accompanied by a leader or guide i.e. Guided Tours.

Independent Travel

Custom Journeys & Tailor-Made Trips

The tours on our website will give you a good idea of what is possible. If you would like something a little different just ask, and we will be happy to see if we can accommodate you. Creating very good custom itineraries takes a bit of research, time and care, so please bear with us if we take a little longer than many of the other tour operators out there.

Self-Drive & Ride Journeys

Whilst it is not always possible to offer every itinerary for independent travelers, especially where the services of a specialist or resident experts are required, we do sometimes give pricing options to allow clients a do-it-yourself trip. We handle the reservations, maps, vouchers and other paraphernalia; you handle the driving, checking in, gps navigation and other logistics.

Guided Tours

Scheduled Departure Tours

Some of our programs would not be possible without the hosting and leadership of a specific expert. To guarantee these programs it is often necessary to book the individual far in advance for specific dates, and to make block reservations with accommodations so that we can guarantee availability. If you are looking to experience the best of a place without worrying about managing logistics or wrangling maps, then our Guided Group Departures are the perfect choices for you.

You will have plenty of one-on-one time with guides and hosts alike, opportunities to learn about the heritage, history, and culture that make destinations come alive. We handle virtually every breakfast and dinner, along with all portages, bottled water and snacks on the trail. We often include local beers and wine.

Note: Group size and what this means is a contentious issue in the travel industry. Essentially a family would constitute a small group but so might a club, school or organization. We do not operate busloads of tourists, even on our grassroots programs. Some of our traditional adventurer overland tours might have a maximum of 16 people, but the majority of Classic and Premium group scheduled tours will have anything between 3 and 12 travelers, with an average of eight.

Private Guided Tours

Where guides and accommodation are available, we can offer an itinerary on a private basis for our clients. Therefore, you will often see pricing for various group size options on a private guided basis.
